Copy and Paste
I have read in my research that Generation Y is a generation that cannot wait. Being born in the era of the world wide web, they do not know what to do without it. They are spoiled brats who grew up in the age where everything is INSTANT. Thus, they want everything that way - food, clothing, even education.
Seriously, they do. Take this as an example:
For one of our classes, we were asked to do a simple SWOT analysis presentation of an IT related case study. We were given at least 3 days heads up on the project. I admit, I was lazy and I procrastinated. But on the day of the presentation, I was the only one who did the project.
Needless to say, our professor was furious. He said that it was supposed to be our Prelim exam. Everyone begged for another chance. We had a 2 hour class that day and my classmates were begging for my help. They did not know what to do. Imagine that, 4th year business majors who do not know how to do a simple case study presentation. Ugh.
Anyway, so I presented first and the professor gave them the rest of the hour to prepare their presentations based on what I did. As I helped some of them find cases one of them asked me. " So…. where do we get the SWOT analysis? Which ones do we need to copy and paste?"
I was dumbfounded. All my resolve to help them flew out the window. How can I help people like those? I excused myself and left.
Why do people think that everything could be copy and pasted? Isn’t that the worst thing in the world? There is no shortcut to learning and learning could never be done INSTANTLY.
But I guess, these people can never get that idea straight in their heads. You will NEVER learn with COPY and PASTE people…
